Goliards to hold auditions for December Hildegard program
The Goliards, Savannah's ancient music ensemble, will produce a Christmas program of Hildegard von Bingen's
Marian hymns in late December, 2010.
Auditions for this production will be held on Tuesday, July 6 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, corner of 34th
& Abercorn.
Organizers are seeking women whose voices have little to no vibrato who possess solid music reading skills and an
interest in learning more about the music of Hildegard von Bingen. This is a volunteer ensemble, and successful
candidates must also be available to rehearse weekly, starting in July, from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesdays, with occasional
supplemental rehearsals closer to the concert date in December.
Hildegard of Bingen (1098 – 17 September 1179) was a Christian mystic, German Benedictine abbess, and
visionary. There has been renewed interest in her music in recent years, and between 70 and 80 of her compositions
have survived, making hers one of the largest repertoires among medieval composers.
